Basketball Skills Competition

This skills competition is an exciting event that highlights the talents of seasoned athletes in two key areas: 3-point shooting and free throws. Participants will showcase their precision, accuracy, and consistency as they compete. This friendly yet competitive event brings together basketball enthusiasts to celebrate skill, sportsmanship, and the joy of the game, offering a fun opportunity for seniors to stay active and engaged in the sport.

Competition Rules & Format
FORMAT
- All events will be finals, and competition for a particular age group shall be conducted during one session.
- Participants will shoot (25) free throws for the free throw shooting competition.
- Participants will shoot (15) 3-point shots, three from each of five locations for the 3-point shooting competition.
- The NSGA and LOC reserve the right to change the tournament format for any age division based on entry numbers, space restrictions, or other circumstance.
- The NSGA and Tournament Manager may impose time limits during competition if necessary. If a time limit is imposed, the player with the most made baskets at the end of the time limit shall be declared the winner.
- Awards will be presented for 1st through 4th place for each event within each age division.
SPORT RULES
- When applicable, the shooting skills competition will be conducted in accordance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women’s College Basketball rules, except as modified herein. For a copy of these rules, please visit the website www.NCAA.org.
- FREE THROW COMPETITION:
- Participants are allowed 2 practice shots.
- Each participant will first shoot 25 (uninterrupted) free throws and will earn 1 point for each basket made. A total of 25 points is possible.
- A modified free throw line shall be available for use for the following age divisions: 75+ women’s teams and 80+ men’s teams. Players in these divisions may choose to shoot any foul shot from a modified free throw line
of 12 feet. All eligible participants must declare the free throw line they intend to shoot from prior to the start of competition. No eligible participants shall be allowed to shoot from both free throw lines at any point during competition. - The ball will be rebounded for the shooter.
- Basketballs will be provided. No personal basketballs may be used for competition
- The participant may not step over the free throw line while shooting (from the time the ball leaves his/her hand until the ball reaches the rim or backboard).
- Tie breaker policy will be as follows:
- Most consecutive free throws made
- Sudden death shoot-off of up to ten additional free throws
- If still tied, multiple medals or ribbons will be awarded 35 as of 10.2.2024
- 3-POINT COMPETITION:
- Participants will have 5-10 minutes to warm up as a group. No additional practice shots will be given.
- Each participant will shoot 3 shots (untimed) from each of five marked locations around the three-point arc. (right and left baselines, right and left wings, and top of key). Shooter will take all shots in succession. All participants will start in the left baseline area and work their way around the arc.
- Participants will earn 1 point for each basket made. A total of 15 points is possible.
- No 3-point line distance modifications will be given for any age group. All participants must shoot from the
distance of (19’ 9”). - The balls will either be on a rack positioned at each location or handed to the shooter by a volunteer. All shots
will be rebounded for the shooter. - Basketballs will be provided. No personal basketballs may be used for competition
- he participant’s feet must be completely behind the 3-point line at the time of the shot. The participant is
allowed to jump from outside the line and land inside, so long as the ball is released mid-air. - Tie breaker policy will be as follows:
- Sudden death shoot-off from top-of-key location
- HOT SHOT COMPETITON
- Each basket is worth one to five points depending on the spot from which it is taken:
- Men: Lay-up (one point); 15′ shots (three points); 18′ shots (four points); 20′ shots (five points).
- Women: Lay-up (one point); 12′ shots (three points); 15′ shots (four points); 17′ shots (five points).
- A bonus of 15 points will be awarded if a shooter attempts a shot from each one of the designated spots during a round. This bonus is awarded only once per one-minute round.
- The best single round score will determine the final score. In case of a tie, the best second round score will determine the winner.
- The three highest scores in each age
- Basketballs will be furnished; however, participants may use any basketball with the approval of game officials.
- The field will consist of a standard basketball goal.
- Official National Basketball rules prevail. Any circumstances not covered in these rules will be ruled upon by the Event Coordinator.
- FREE THROW COMPETITION:
Other information
All registration sales are final. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations, postponements, or interruptions caused by weather, natural events, acts of God, or any circumstances beyond the control of the Colorado Senior Games (CSG).
CSG reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to offer credits or registration transfers in special cases; however, these are not guaranteed and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
If you believe a refund is warranted and falls outside the policy stated above, your request must be submitted in writing within 14 days following the event date. Refund requests received more than 14 days after the event will not be considered.
By registering, athletes acknowledge and accept these terms as part of their agreement to participate.
